Lisa Winstanley

Lisa Winstanley

Lisa Winstanley is an Assistant Professor in the School of Art Design and Media. For the past decade she worked internationally as a design educator, however her academic career is also underpinned by over 20 years of commercial experience; working in the UK as a creative practitioner and design consultant. As a visual communicator, Lisa’s work has won many prestigious industry awards including, The World Wide Logo Design Awards (WOLDA) 2019 Gold Award and most recently her branding work has been awarded as one of the top 25 Graphic Designs of 2019 in the International Creative Quarterly best 100 Annual. With further works showcased in exhibitions in New York City, Barcelona, Zurich and Florida's Fort Lauderdale Art & Design Week. Her current research reviews the intersections between ethical and collaborative design practices and pedagogies, though the lens of design for change. She is interested in investigating multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaborations which allow designers to work together with society, to produce life-centric design solutions for society. Her research reviews what tools can help facilitate such collaborations and what systems need to be in place for effective and meaningful collaboration to transpire. In short, Lisa’s work investigates how we can leverage design collaboratively and ethically for the benefit of our society.

Born in Łódź in 1980. He began his studies in 2000 and in 2005 he obtained his master degree with honours in Professor Jerzy Treliński’s Visual Information Studio, a unit of the Department of Graphic Design in the Faculty of Graphics and Painting at the Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts Łódź. In 2002 he participated in the Erasmus Programme in the Media & Communication School in Kouvola, Finland, and in 2005 he was granted a scholarship of the Danish government in Danmarks Designskole in Copenhagen. In 2006 he was granted the position of the assistant in Professor Treliński’s Visual Information Studio. Since 2010 he has been the assistant of Associate Professor Piotr Karczewski, In 2018 he has got the PhD (Visual information for the City Parks in Lodz). Currently working as graphic design PhD teacher at the Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts Łódź (Identity Graphic Studio) and art director in publishing house 'Afterimages'.

From 2008 to 2010, he helped St. Augustine College in Chicago create images for the El Puente Gala Awards, an event that raises funds for low-income Latino student scholarships. 2008–2010, he designed for the National Latino AIDS Awareness Day in New York during social campaigns. 2008, he created and designed the “Flip to Learn” program to help non-speaking English students learn irregular verbs. The program is utilized at Broward College in South Florida, Triton College and St. Augustine College in Chicago, and some Chicago Public Schools, where they teach English as a second language.
